Amy’s Notes

Amy Dong

Every summer I seem to come home with more strawberries than I know what to do with. I end up freezing a bunch, and this Strawberry Daiquiri is one of my favorite ways to use them up. With just four simple ingredients and a blender, it tastes like summer in a glass no matter what time of year it is.

  • Simple and Fresh: Frozen strawberries, fresh lime juice, rum, and agave blend together in minutes, just like these 5-Minute Strawberry Margaritas.
  • Anytime of Year: Using frozen strawberries means you can enjoy this fruity cocktail year-round without waiting for berry season.
  • Balanced Flavors: The tart lime and touch of agave create a refreshing drink that’s bright and flavorful without being overly sweet.
  • Easy to Customize: Make it sweeter, tangier, or even alcohol-free by skipping the rum, similar to these customizable Cherry Mojitos.

Key Recipe Ingredients

  • Frozen Strawberries – Provide natural sweetness, bright color, and that perfect icy texture without needing extra ice. Fresh strawberries can be used if you add a handful of ice cubes to keep the drink cold and thick.
  • Light Rum – Adds a smooth, crisp flavor that balances the sweetness of the berries. You can skip it for a non-alcoholic version or swap in coconut water for a tropical touch.
  • Fresh Lime Juice – Brings a bright, tangy flavor that keeps the drink refreshing. Bottled lime juice works in a pinch, but fresh-squeezed makes a big difference.
  • Agave Nectar or Simple Syrup – Sweetens the daiquiri just enough without overpowering the fruit. Honey or maple syrup can be used if that’s what you have on hand.

Substitutions And Variations

Here are some of our favorite substitutions and variations:

  • Fruit Options: I like to swap half the strawberries for mango or pineapple when I want a tropical vibe. You can also use mixed berries for a deeper, tangier flavor.
  • Sweetener Swaps: Agave gives a smooth sweetness, but honey or simple syrup work just as well. If you like it less sweet, start with one tablespoon and adjust to taste.
  • Non-Alcoholic Version: Skip the rum and add a splash of coconut water or sparkling lime soda. It’s just as refreshing and perfect for everyone to enjoy.

Step-By-Step Recipe Instructions

  1. Blend strawberries, rum, lime juice, and agave until smooth.
  2. Pour into glasses, garnish if desired, and serve cold.

  • Prep and Freeze the Fruit: Portion out frozen strawberries into freezer-safe bags. That way, you can grab a bag and blend without any extra prep when it’s time to serve.
  • Blend and Freeze: If you want to make the daiquiri a few hours early, blend it and pour into a freezer-safe container. Freeze until firm, then let it sit at room temperature for 10–15 minutes before stirring and serving.

Ingredients

  • 1 heaping cup strawberries frozen
  • 3 ounces light rum
  • 2 ounces lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 2 tablespoons agave nectar or simple syrup

Optional Garnishes:

  • lime slices fresh slices
  • strawberry slices fresh slices
  • mint sprigs

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a heavy duty blender. Blend just until smooth.
  • Use rubber spatula to fully transfer into 1-2 glasses of your choice. Garnish as desired and serve while very cold.

Notes

  • Recipe makes 1 larger serving or 2 smaller servings. You can easily make a bigger batch by increasing all ingredients proportionally.
  • Use frozen strawberries for the best texture. They keep the drink thick and icy without needing extra ice.
  • Freshly squeezed lime juice gives the daiquiri a bright, clean flavor that bottled juice can’t match.
  • To make it sweeter: Add an extra tablespoon or two of agave nectar. You can also use honey.
  • Chill your glasses before serving to keep the daiquiri cold longer.
  • To make it a mocktail or non-alcoholic version, replace the rum with sparkling lime soda, ginger ale, or coconut water.
  • If your blender struggles with frozen fruit, let the strawberries sit at room temperature for 5 minutes before blending.
  • To make it ahead: Freeze the blended mix in an airtight container for up to 7 days; then re-blend or stir before serving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use fresh strawberries instead of frozen for strawberry daiquiri?

Yes, you can use fresh strawberries if that’s what you have on hand. Just add a handful of ice cubes to help thicken the drink and keep it cold. Frozen strawberries give the daiquiri its smooth, slushy texture without watering it down.

What is the best rum for a strawberry daiquiri?

Light rum is the classic choice for a clean, crisp flavor that lets the strawberries and lime shine. You can use dark rum for a deeper, richer taste, or even coconut rum for a tropical twist.

How can I make a large batch of strawberry daiquiri for a party?

Just multiply the ingredients evenly based on how many servings you want. Blend in batches if needed, and serve right away so the texture stays icy and smooth. My Big Batch Pineapple Margaritas are another summer favorite.

How long does strawberry daiquiri keep?

Strawberry Daiquiris are best served immediately while cold and frosty. If you have leftovers, freeze them in an airtight container for up to a week. Because of the alcohol content, it won’t freeze completely solid. Let the mixture sit at room temperature for 10–15 minutes, then stir or blend again before serving.

Can I make frozen daiquiri in a regular blender?

If your blender struggles with frozen fruit, let the strawberries thaw at room temperature for 5 minutes before blending, or add a tiny splash of extra lime juice to help the blades catch.
