This Mango Smoothie Recipe is one of my favorite summer drinks. With just five simple ingredients, it’s super easy and healthy. The fun part is that you get to control the consistency, so you can enjoy it thick or thin it out with a splash more coconut milk. Keep this smoothie recipe handy because you’ll be making it on repeat.

Key Recipe Ingredients

Ripe mangoes – They need to be very ripe for this recipe. Since there are several different varieties of mangoes, the best way to determine ripeness is to give the mango a gentle squeeze. It should have a little give, and that’s the clue it’s ripe.
Unsweetened coconut milk – I use unsweetened because ripe mangoes already add quite a bit of natural sweetness.
Vanilla Greek yogurt – It adds a great texture and also a hint of vanilla flavoring. Plus, the added protein boost.
Agave nectar – This is a great addition for a more natural sweetness. You can add more or less of this, depending on your preference.
Crushed ice – This is a must – don’t skip. It helps chill the smoothie quickly and improves texture.
Substitutions and Variations
Here are some of our favorite substitutions and variations:
- Plain Greek Yogurt: You can swap out the vanilla for plain Greek yogurt, or any other flavor that you think pairs well with mangoes.
- Milk: Almond milk or regular milk can be used in place of coconut milk.
- Honey or Maple Syrup: Either one works in place of agave — use whichever you keep on hand.
Step-by-Step Recipe Instructions

- Add all the smoothie ingredients to a blender.
- Blend until you’re happy with the texture and thickness. Enjoy!

How to Prep Ahead and Freeze
This simple smoothie recipe is versatile in how it can be made:
- Combine and Freeze: Even though I love this fresh mango smoothie as soon as I make it, I also love the texture of it when it’s frozen. Make it, and freeze it for an even “cooler” treat.
- Serving Size: One tip that I love to share is that you can freeze this smoothie in freezer-safe baggies in serving sizes. That way, when you’re ready to enjoy, you just have to use one of the bags and save the rest for later.
- Storage: This smoothie is best fresh, but leftovers keep in an airtight jar in the fridge up to 24 hours — give it a good shake or quick re-blend before drinking. For anything longer, freeze it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes – a peeled mango blends better and offers a better overall texture.
You can, but you might notice a bit of a difference. Fresh mango, when ripe and in season, will have a sweeter flavor. Frozen mango works well, but can be a bit duller in flavor. Either will work, but I do think that fresh is best.
You can always add a scoop of your favorite protein powder to increase the protein. Another option is to buy protein milk and use that instead of the coconut milk.
100%, yes. You can literally swap out the mango for strawberries, berries, or any other fruit you want.
Since this is a chilled beverage, I recommend making it and enjoying it fresh. If you do have to store any leftovers, I would freeze them so that they don’t lose their texture.
